“As a futurologist, I have no personal agenda. My hopes or beliefs do not color my observations. I simply try to show the reality of the future.”
Dr. Morgaine Gaye is a visionary and food futurologist, consultant, author, speaker, and sought-after media personality.
Dr. Morgaine Gaye is a world-renowned Food Futurologist who looks at food not only from a gastronomic perspective but also at how nutrition intertwines with social, cultural, economic, and geopolitical trends. Her unique approach combines in-depth analyses with creative thinking, enabling her to help brands innovate and prepare for the future.
Looking back on her childhood, it is remarkable that her work revolves around food.
“My mother was a butcher, and my father was a bodybuilder. Meals at home were stressful and certainly not the most enjoyable moments of the day.”
However, if you ask Morgaine, she is not primarily concerned with food in itself, but more with the concept of food as a reaction to major societal shifts. Trends that are happening right under our noses, but are not recognized or understood by many. Morgaine is different. She observes, philosophizes, and predicts various perspectives of the near and distant future. Predictions that have proven to be accurate more than once.
“It sometimes feels like other people are living life while I am observing that life. I have always felt a strong need to understand the world, which is why I look just a little closer.”
Morgaine has collaborated with some of the biggest names in the food industry, such as Mondelez, Mars, Unilever, and Nestlé. She leads sessions, develops new products, and provides advice on brand strategies, packaging, and consumer drivers. Additionally, she works with non-food companies and organizations such as Panasonic, Siemens, Sony, the Ministry of Defence, and Amazon.
Her name also frequently appears in the academic world. Her work has been published in various academic journals, she has contributed to conferences, and she is a sought-after guest lecturer at universities in the UK, US and Sweden. She also served as the chair of an EU committee in the Brussels Parliament.
Morgaine is also a well-known media personality and appears regularly on television and radio, from BBC World News to Netflix’s “The Future of…” series. In 2023, she published her book Fashion to Fork – Why We Eat What We Eat, in which she explores the cultural influences on our eating behavior.
As a speaker, Morgaine surprises and inspires her audience with her refreshing perspective on the future of food and society. During her talks, all your senses are heightened.

"You don't recognize a revolution when you're in the middle of it. Unless you observe closely..."

“First, I make the connection, then I make a prediction.”
Our Relationship with Time and Food
The pandemic has influenced , how we structure our daily lives and developments such as AI will contribute even more strongly to it. The future of work is changing, as is the way we assign meaning to our lives and moments of human interaction.
“If I translate this to the food industry, one prediction is that breakfast offers opportunities. In the future, it could be the only meal time when families can truly eat together and healthily. If brands capitalize on this, they can create new meanings around this moment.
Looking at developments in politics, AI, and climate, Morgaine also anticipates the broader impact of larger societal shifts that are currently happening. And while she approaches this positively as a person, she remains neutral in her work.
“As a futurologist, it is not my goal to persuade people of anything. I have no personal agenda, and my hopes or fears do not color my observations. I simply try to show the reality of the future, preferably to those who have the power to make strategic choices based on this.”

Interview with Morgaine Gaye
How do you envision the future?
“Like everyone else, it is also difficult for me to imagine my own future, even though I can envision it on a larger scale. It’s a bit like how we now idealize the 90s while conveniently forgetting the challenges we faced back then. We had the same problems at that time; it’s just that we weren’t collectively aware of significant trials like climate change.
Almost everyone thinks the future will be an extension of the current situation. I don’t think so. In the past decades, that might have been the case. but I believe a disruptive tipping point will arrive in the near future. Since the pandemic, it has become somewhat easier to visualize something we couldn’t before. I believe we are experiencing a major shift, comparable to the industrial revolution. The point is, you only recognize a revolution in hindsight, not when you are in the middle of it.”
How do you envision that future in a broader sense?
“I think that by 2040, the evolution of our way of life will become more apparent. This ‘butterfly effect’ is already happening right under our noses; you just have to be able to recognize it. Societies, old safety nets, political systems, and borders will all have been redefined. That is what I foresee.”
What brings you joy in the here and now?
“Dogs! They are fantastic. And the little things in life. A hot cup of tea in the morning, lighting a candle at dinner, a blue sky. And singing; I sing in a championship barbershop group. I enjoy being creative, collaborating, and facing physical challenges.
