Nikki Trip

“I wish all corporates had their own ‘activist’ to keep them focused on what is important for a bright future.”
Nikki Trip is a (corporate) activist, sustainable asset management consultant, future pension fund manager and founder of several NGOs. In her keynotes, she talks about how to find your impact niche and contribute to a fair world.
Nikki Trip believes that high position and great privilege also come with responsibilities. In her own upbringing, empathy for others plays a major role, which has driven her from a young age to help eliminate all injustice that comes her way. She studied Psychology & Law at University College Maastricht, during which time she engaged in children’s rights research and wrote her graduation thesis on the representation and participation of generation Y in the Dutch pension sector.
After this, she earned the Master’s degree in Global Business & Sustainability at Rotterdam School of Management, majoring in Sustainable Finance. She knows the financial world inside out, and there is a growing realization that asset managers, including pension funds, have tremendous power in building a sustainable and justifiable world. So, Nikki asks herself, why does it still happen so little? She establishes “Shareholders of the Future,” where young people are given a voice to speak out against unsustainable investments by pension funds, among others.
She is also founding network “Twenty-one hundred”; an initiative focused on new leadership for broad prosperity; part of the Impact Economy Foundation. This intergenerational network brings together young talent and transformative established executives to drive much needed acceleration from the boardrooms.
Nikki has also completed a Pension Fund Director course at Nyenrode and a traineeship with a pension board. She continued to work with the fund as an advisor to the investment committee and, with this experience, geared up for a director role in the industry. In 2023, Nikki was selected for the Top 50 Women in Sustainable Finance.
She is a Sustainability Specialist at AF Advisors, where she helps both asset owners (such as pension funds) and asset managers (asset managers) with their sustainability strategy. Incidentally, she describes her role herself as “corporate activist.
“As a corporate activist, I have the space to be critical within the organization and in advising clients. More companies should have an activist in-house and nurture them; it keeps them focused on what really matters for an honest future.”
To keep room for her different roles, she works part-time in the ‘corporate’ world and the other part for her NGO’s. By connecting these and the corporate world, she wants to inspire companies to make future-proof choices.
Nikki has found her impact niche and with her keynotes she likes to help others discover where they can make impact, regardless of profession, function or age.

"We are the last generations who can make a difference for a livable world, let's take that responsibility together."

“The honest message is that real systemic change will not always be fun and comfortable."
Corporate activism and intergenerational collaboration
The new batch of young people now joining companies will in all likelihood still be alive in the year 2100. So why does this year sound so distant in the decision-making of these companies? And why aren’t young people asked about their perspectives? After all, it’s about their future.
Nikki wondered about this and since she first entered the pension sector, it has been her mission to give this generation a voice. Both from within the system and from outside – including through her NGOs and as a speaker – she wants to point out to young people, but also to current administrators and asset managers, their influence and responsibility.
Nikki advocates embracing and nurturing corporate activists in business and intergenerational collaboration; more age diversity on boards.
“The older guard has accumulated a lot of credits and experience, young people on the other hand have fresh eyes; they ask the basic questions that need to be asked again and again. All generations are needed.”
Both in her work and while speaking, Nikki seeks to create collaboration between generations and inspire them. She has the courage to dare to be critical. Whether you are at the beginning or end of your career, low or high on the corporate ladder. Activism has many styles and ways. Nikki helps you find yours and take steps toward an impact career, in whatever form it takes.
When asked if she is already thinking about retirement herself, she replies:
“I have the vain hope of making it to the year 2100 myself, by which time I will be retired. But actually I hope to still be actively working for justice then, like a Jane Goodall or David Attenborough.”

1. Admirable
Nikki has walked a remarkable path at a young age (1997) that has led to the pension sector. She works both on solutions within the sector and with various NGOs aimed at fighting injustice.
2. Authentic
Nikki is very sure about it; she is very successful in telling her own story and in emphasizing the moral obligation that companies, asset managers, and individuals have. Privilege comes with responsibility; that is her core message.
3. Energetic
Speaking with passion and a good pinch of pepper, she knows how to keep the audience on their toes. Her message is urgent and her story anything but boring, it is full of concrete points and catchy examples.
4. Critical
Systemic change may look easy on paper, but it won’t always be fun, Nikki admits. Realizing that change can be uncomfortable is the first step toward accepting that change is necessary. She challenges people to take that extra step out of their comfort zone.
“Stepping out of your comfort zone is scary, but being on the wrong side of history is even scarier. That’s why we must continue to question and challenge the system”
5. Inviting
Nikki invites everyone to take on the role that best suits you. As she herself says “Not everyone is made to stand on the A12”. She encourages you to push your limits while doing something that matches your own talents. That’s where the impact happens!

Four questions for Nikki Trip
For Good: What does "good" mean to you?
“A fair world, which is fair for all generations; here, now and in the future. You can look at justice from many perspectives; climate is a very important one that I want to work for. I would like to appeal to and grow people’s sense of responsibility and at the same time offer prospects for action. Those two are decisive factors for making a large-scale impact.”
Do you have an example or inspiration yourself?
“Professor Dr. Harry Hummels, my undergraduate thesis supervisor who introduced me to the topic of pensions. He showed me for the first time how many opportunities there are when we look at more than just financial value. He gave me the opportunity to develop and took his role as a supervisor and mentor seriously. Very inspiring to see someone shaping his own role, taking responsibility for his influence, but also clearly making room for the next generation. Not fearing one’s own position, but working together on intergenerational leadership where synergy between generations only makes real impact.”
Walk the talk: how are you of value?
“I share from my own experience how I went about finding my impact niche. I didn’t foresee this path myself either, but now that I’m here I try to make as much impact as possible. That makes my story credible and authentic. I sincerely believe in the power of broad prosperity and intergenerational justice, and therefore I can really tap into people’s influence and give them energy to get started.”
What makes you happy?
“When you are trying to change something in your organization, it can sometimes feel like you are fighting a lonely battle or constantly swimming against the current. It is important (and nice) to find supporters internally to work towards something together. But connecting externally with others and exchanging with like-minded people can also be very valuable. That’s why I think it’s important to support people by networking so you can learn from each other and get some perspective on the impact you’re trying to make. I get very happy when I see people coming together and recharging together!”

Nikki brought interesting insights, created a huge amount of extra energy in the room (300 people) and perhaps most convincing is the way she does it: very open and very clear (authentic!). In addition, she prepares well and is punctual. We would recommend her to anyone as a speaker.”
